Sharing experiences both far away and right at home

When Zach is Away

When Zach is Away

I really liked being single. I was good at it :) Mostly because to be good at being single means you just have to think about yourself all the time. In college, I was hardly home, I ran around from meeting, to work, to event, to class, to hangouts. When I was home, I was usually doing some project or another. I easily got inspired and excited about something and then another thing and then another. Zach and I are still busy and still run around like crazy, but there is more built in chill time spent together catching up than I have ever done before (and it's actually really good for me).

So with Zach gone for 4 days on a work trip and the temperature being above 50 for all of those days, I got really excited. I spent the drive home from the airport day dreaming about a new bathroom (via white paint covering the terrible renters cream and tan).

Sunday evening I went to a church meeting-Our church is starting a new church in the Drake neighborhood in Des Moines. We live right across the bridge from this neighborhood and are excited to be part of the vision and building stage of this transition. We got to worship the God who leads us to amazing things and guides our decisons in this process. We heard about plans, possible old beautiful church renovations, and prayed over some upcoming meetings with the city.

The next morning, I had the morning off and did EVERYTHING. It was 70 and felt like another Saturday and it was amazing.

I ate breakfast here:

I drank coffee and read for a while. (Classic picture that everyone ever has taken).

I cleaned out our scary storage closet and donated a ton of stuff.

We donated my old twin bed to the FreeStore, an organization that sets up apartments for women getting out of domestic abuse situations.

I rearranged our bookshelf in the study.

I walked to my doctors appointment. Worked up a tiny sweat (YUS. It makes me happy!).

I grabbed coffee with Liz, my sister in law and talked weddings and engagements!

AND got to go to her dress fitting :) 3 little months!

I took a little more time off on Tuesday to enjoy the weather and paint our bathroom!!

I went to yoga with my friends :) Yoga-drunk. Do you know that's a thing? Like ultra relaxed and a bit sleepy afterward? It was nice.

Zach and I are in the midst of addressing thank you notes from our wedding (it's been 9 months, we know) but! We have talked to most everyone that we are writing to...

Zach picked us up some nifty disposable fountain pens to make the evenings more fun :)

And now Zach is back!! As fun as it is for me to run around and meet up with my friends whenever I want and to do last minute projects on the fly (on average 8 at a time) like single Emily days, it's way better for a person to have to consider someone else before themselves. It shows you a lot about what you're made of. Also. It is way more enjoyable waking up, going to sleep, and doing everything in between with him.
