Sharing experiences both far away and right at home

Cabo

Cabo

"I feel like this is my home now. I know where everything is on this compound."

(Speaking of my intense attachment to our resort on day 5 of 6)

I had the incredible gift and privilege to be able to travel with Zach to Cabo on his work trip. His company is very generous and very much value and encourage the marriages of their workers. It was SO GREAT.

After going to Philadelphia and NYC, I was home for 2 days before we headed to Mexico.

I am going to let you all know, I totally did not think I was a resort kind of girl. I have been on some amazing road trips, had the pleasure of hiking/camping/fly fishing trips, exploration of shops and eats in cities trips, and trips with friends and backpacks stuffed to the brim in Europe. I have never been on a beach vacation. AND LET ME TELL YOU. I am all about the beach vacation.

After landing in the desert and driving by dirt shacks and endless cactus, we arrived at the resort.

AND, we pulled up to this.

And THAT ^ went out to THIS.

AND EVENTUALLY THIS.

Our time was really really dreamy. The days consisted of getting up early, getting coffee and breakfast on a big patio overlooking the pool.

Zach was here to be a vendor to some veterinarians that were attending a conference. So I would hang out for awhile and talk to the veterinarians. I left all the facts and biology talk to Zach while he told them about their new rattle snake anti venon. I would just stand and listen and talk to people about their afternoon plans! It was like Friday every day.

After a couple of hours of sitting in this walkway, I would usually go wander the property and admire the SUCULENTS that are year round and huge, and the cacti (?) and all of the charming spanish decor.

AND THEN. I would go on a run. It was really hot, but there was always a sea breeze. And it was beautiful. I would run on these dirt paths outside of the resort. Running through the desert with nothing to hurry and be done for, was so relaxing.

And then I would find my way to the shore.

image.jpg

After that. I would throw my swimsuit on, choose beach or pool and go jump in and lay out until it was time to pick up ole Zach.

image.jpg

I read a lot and it was amazing. Sorry to the Downtown Library for the sea salt in between your bindings.

image.jpg

Or, I would hammock and take a nap (gosh, just soooooo tired haha).

And then my favorite! I went to pick up Zach, bid adew to the vets, and whisked him away to one of the lunch spots!

image.jpg

We ate a lot of salsa, guac, and ceviche. AS WE SHOULD.

image.jpg

And coconut ice cream.

image.jpg

And then we would continue our lay :)

image.jpg

And then in the evening we would either a. Go play in the beach coves.

And I would exit beach cove ASAP...

or b. Go eat dinner at one of the nicer restaurants.

There is an art to being sat and having your  chair being slid under you. I have never skied before, but after this trip, I am the girl you should take with you on the lift.

image.jpg

Orrrrrrr option c. Go to a evening dinner party by the pool and be attended to by the mereiache band (person favorite). We got to sit and eat and hang out with these brilliant doctors from the west coast and the east coast and Texas and Mexico City and they were great.

image.jpg

Oh! Or option d. Try some very local mezcal that we both really liked but cannot locate anywhere.

image.jpg

And then there was Cabo San Lucas.

image.jpg

Haha it wasn't that extreme. As badly as I wanted to go explore, after an hour, I was ready for the resort again.

image.jpg
image.jpg

We went into a few of the shops. It was about 89 degrees in this room.

image.jpg
image.jpg

Zach dabbed for a lot of this trip. But he actually dabbed a few of the hagglers standing outside shops. It seemed to repel them.

image.jpg

Pucca shells everywhereeeeeeeeee

image.jpg

The Marina was the pretty touristy part. This is where the excursions to the ocean leave. There were some American ish restaurants. But. Everyone looked miserable there.

image.jpg

So! We headed back to the resort. My one purchase in tow. A truly sun faded Cabo San Lucas tank. We played on the beach one last time. And this is where I decided I was not ready to come home. I actually relaxed so much, but it still always felt like there was something more to discover or experience on the resort (helllllloooooo perfect balance on a vacation!)

image.jpg
image.jpg

We took one last long walk. And we talked about the trip. Zach and I both agree that going to taco truck down the street or getting packaged sushi at the market down the street and then playing in the park with our friends or hanging out at our apartment with the windows open (my edit to our conjoined day dream) will always be more satisfying than eating fancy small plates of food and having your chair slid in under neath you.

image.jpg

But! The ocean is something that should be remembered. It is so beautiful and calming and peaceful. There's a reason to go to the ocean and stand in awe of it! It cannot be tamed, and it's beautiful.

So after getting home to dsm late on Monday night, I found my suitcase to be cracked. This guy was a Christmas present in college and took me all over Europe, on various work trips, various work trips for Zach, to Chicago and on our honeymoon to California, and through the potholes of Bushwick. Mexico and back was its last leg as my sidekick.
